24th of July at the parade!

Growing up in Utah gave me an opportunity that most do not have in their lifetime, what you might ask?! Sleeping out at the Day's of 47 Parade!!! hahaha I have so many memories of sleeping over at the parade and they are all great ones! Playing on the elevators all night when my Grandparents lived at Eagle Gate, sleeping out with all my White family cousins, making breakfasts, taking naps on the 24th, playing games, getting wet from sprinklers, even venturing out with a 3 year old and a 1 year old on my own! I love sleeping out at the parade, it's always a new experience and I think everyone should try it at least once in their lifetime! When I found out a few days before the 24th that my husband had NEVER slept over at the parade I knew that had to change! We invited our friends the Bronson's to come along and of course had to get Elizabeth and Dallin involved and all their friends... (I'm getting old I need the entertainment!)
We headed to the parade about 8 PM, that was our first mistake, we should have been downtown A LOT earlier! We made do with what we had and found a place on the "sunny" side of the street, blew up air mattresses and played! About 10:30 the sprinklers came on and drenched EVERYTHING! They stayed on for 35 minutes... WHO waters their lawns for 35 minutes?! I was ticked, but it was all part of the experience so we laughed and got over it. (I should note that while the sprinkler ordeal was going on Ben was away picking up fast food, missing out on the experience!)
My kids ended up crashing about 11:30 that night, it was fun to see them all sleeping out and brought back good memories! They loved everything about the trip! Elizabeth and the wild crew ended up coming about 12:30 that night and that's when all crazy fun started! After 1 hour of sleep in an entire night, watching Dallin and Mayor Nordfelt's grandson "urban joust," and watching punks mess around on bikes it was time to get up and watch the parade.... oh but that was after our 3:30 AM wake up call when once again the sprinklers came on and soaked everyone! (Ben was around that time and he was shocked! The kids on the other hand slept right through all the commotion!) We survived the night and loved watching the parade! Grandma Cindy, Grandpa and the Gunderson clan joined us that morning. Ben enjoyed every minute of it and asked if we could do it all over again next year! Maybe next year though I can get Adam and Scot out there with us... we missed having them around.

When we got home from the parade I tried to take some pictures of the "matching" cute kids... I really need to come to conclusion that you can't get all of your kids to look, be happy, or be serious and listen all at the same time! It provides good laughs and memories though so I guess that counts!

There's always one child that isn't happy!

Or the child that is attacking another child!
You finally get them all to look, Smile and get a good picture only to see that one child has the socks on you told him to TAKE OFF!!!
And then the whole picture taking craze is gone because someone lets a stink bomb! Any guesses on who that person was?!?!
Firework time.... we wished Scot could have come with the "good" fireworks!
Happy Pioneer Day!

Here's a suggestion for next year...5 gallon buckets! Put the buckets over the sprinkler heads at night and you can use them for chairs in the a.m.
