Uncle Jack

On Friday we attended the funeral of Uncle Jack, it was a sobering experience. For years we have come down to the farm for Easter and celebrated and this year was both a celebration of eternal life while mourning the death of a wonderful man. When I was 6 years old Aunt Enid, Jack's wife died. She was an amazing woman I remember her so well it amazes me sometimes how it just feels like yesterday she died. When I heard of Uncle Jack's death the first thing that came to my mind is he can finally go home and be with the love of his life. The tears flowed but a smile was on my face of this knowledge, that our family is forever. I was glad to have Ben around since he was gone this time last year, it's always comforting to hear your husband say "We'll be like that one day, old and happy, still crazy in love. taking our eternal naps!"
The service for Uncle Jack was amazing. They spoke of his life, told stories that I knew and didn't know. His grandchildren gave him a beautiful tribute and brought together the Jackson and Bailey family in a reunion we haven't had for years. It was great to see so many family members together again. Uncle Jack served in WWII and the Korean War so at his burial they gave him a 21 gun solute, the kids thought that was great! It was a good day even though the reason we were there was because of a great loss.

Well said Tera. Maybe it was the Easter holiday but I surely felt a sense of continuation of life after Uncle Jack's passing. What a wonderful tribute to his life.
